Sound City Players

Jessy is on tour with Dave Grohl’s ‘Sound City Players’ celebrating the release of Grohl’s directorial debut, “Sound City,” which premiered last month at the Sundance Film Festival.

Select screenings of the film will be accompanied by star-studded concerts across the world. The core lineup of Sound City Players are contributors to the film’s soundtrack – many of which have recorded at Sound City – including Stevie Nicks, Rick Springfield, John Fogerty, Brad Wilk of Rage Against The Machine, Rick Nielsen of Cheap Trick, and Lee Ving of Fear as well as Grohl, Greene, Taylor Hawkins, Nate Mendel, Krist Novoselic, Chris Shiflett, Pat Smear, Rami Jaffee, Corey Tayor, Alain Johannas and Chris Goss.

“Sound City” is a documentary film about the legacy of legendary Los Angeles’ recording studio Sound City Studios. The film is a love letter, as much as a tribute, to the analog studio depicting its distinct peaks that attracted many major acts to record there before its 2011 closing including: Nirvana, Fleetwood Mac, Neil Young, Tom Petty, Cheap Trick, Johnny Cash, Nine Inch Nails, Rage Against The Machine and many more.

Once the studio closed, Grohl purchased Sound City’s custom-built Neve 8028 recording console which he then used at the Foo Fighters’ Studio 606 to help tell the Sound City’s story and score the documentary. Jessy collaborated with Grohl, Rami Jaffee and Jim Keltner on “If I Were Me,” which appears of the film’s soundtrack “Sound City: Real to Reel”.

The Kill Kancer benefit was certainly an emotional one — to pay tribute to Soul Asylum bassist Karl Mueller on the seventh anniversary of his death, while raising money for cancer research — but the execution was hardly somber. Instead, influential musicians from every corner of Mueller’s life turned out to crank up their amps and fill the Cedar with some of the loudest rock ‘n’ roll the venue’s ever seen. Foo Fighters kicked off their 27-date North American tour… The band played “I Should Have Known” for the first time live, and the song was made all the sweeter by the surprise addition of Minnesota native Jessy Greene (Pink, Fistful of Mercy) on violin. Greene also helped Grohl ease into a lengthy encore by accompanying him to a small raised platform near the back of the arena, where the two performed a stunning rendition of “See You” that had the frontman shaking his head in disbelief and holding onto his acoustic guitar for dear life… [Read full article].

Jessy Confirmed for Buddy Holly Tribute Concert

September 7, 2011 marks Buddy Holly’s 75th birthday and in honor of his legacy, Los Angeles will be declaring the day as Buddy Holly Day. He will receive a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and later that evening, the Music Box will host an exclusive invitation-only concert with special guest performances by artists who have been influenced by Holly’s music, as well as friends and family members of Holly’s. The tribute will be filmed in HD for a special PBS airing in December 2011. Confirmed artists include: JESSY GREENE, Jackson Browne, Michelle Branch, Chris Isaak, Lyle Lovett, Raul Malo, Graham Nash, Stevie Nicks, Boz Scaggs, Patrick Stump and more.
